Guarding Your Heart: The Power of Selective Energy Investment

Hey Faithful Fam!

I hope this post finds you wrapped in the warmth of His love. Today, I want to dive into a topic that's been my focus the past couple of months—the importance of guarding our hearts and investing our energy where it truly matters.

The Realization: Not All Cups Deserve Your Pour

So, let's get real. It took me a while to grasp the concept that not everyone deserves the energy I'm pouring out. You see, I've always been the kind to give my all, to pour into others without expecting much in return. But this year, oh, this year was a game-changer.

I found myself surrounded by folks I'd been investing in, pouring my time, love, and prayers into, only to realize that my cup was empty, and theirs? Well, it seemed like they didn't even have a cup to offer. It stung, fam. It hurt to see that the very people I considered my inner circle weren't reciprocating the energy I was pouring out.

The Biblical Perspective: Guard Your Heart, Seek Wise Counsel

In Proverbs 4:23, the Word tells us, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." How profound is that? Our hearts are precious vessels, and we need to be mindful of what we allow to flow in and out.

I also couldn't shake off the wisdom found in Proverbs 13:20, "Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm." It hit me—surrounding ourselves with people who uplift, inspire, and reciprocate is not just a desire; it's biblical wisdom.

Pouring Into the Pourers: A Revelation of Self-Love

Here's the scoop—I've hit a point where I only want to pour into those who are pouring into me. It's not selfish; it's an act of self-love. Galatians 6:2 encourages us to "Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ." Emphasis on "each other’s."

Pouring into people who reciprocate creates a beautiful, reciprocal flow of love, support, and encouragement. It's about fostering relationships that elevate and edify, not drain and deplete.

The Challenge: Embrace the Purge, Embrace Growth

Yes, it might mean cutting off people close to you. Yes, it might stir up discomfort, but in the pruning, growth emerges. John 15:2 reminds us, "He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful."

 Choose Wisely, Love Intentionally

As we journey through life, let's choose our companions wisely. Surround yourself with souls that encourage, uplift, and, most importantly, reciprocate. Remember, your heart is a treasure, and not everyone deserves a key.

Guarding my heart and energy, I've discovered a renewed sense of peace and purpose. May you too find the courage to embrace the purge and make room for the abundant growth that awaits.

All the best,

Payton Duncan
