Being Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable

Hey there, wonderful souls! Today, let's dive into a topic that's been resonating deeply with me lately: the idea of being comfortable with being uncomfortable. It's a concept that can stretch us, challenge us, and ultimately help us grow into the people God created us to be.

Solo Sessions are the best!

Have you ever found yourself hesitating to do something alone? Maybe it's going to a brewery, grabbing a meal at your favorite restaurant, or even hitting the driving range for a solo golf session. I've been there too! But let me tell you, embracing these solo adventures can be incredibly empowering.

There's a beautiful verse that comes to mind: Romans 12:2 says, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." Stepping out of your comfort zone is where the transformation begins. It's where you start to uncover the depths of your capabilities and experience life in a new light.

Embracing the Uncomfortable

Recently, I tuned in to an enlightening podcast episode that spoke directly to this topic. It was the "Keep it Real" podcast with Allie Schnacky, featuring Austin Armstrong. The episode focused on discovering God's purpose for our lives and, interestingly, it touched on the idea of discomfort.

Austin shared his journey of realizing that discomfort often accompanies growth. He explained that the moments where we feel unsure, the times when we venture into the unknown, are the very instances that can lead us to our purpose. Allie chimed in, adding that stepping outside our comfort zones is where God can truly work wonders in our lives.

Championing the Unfamiliar

Listening to their conversation, I couldn't help but nod in agreement. Over time, I've come to realize that doing things outside of my comfort zone has been a catalyst for personal growth. It's in those moments of solo exploration, like trying out new workout classes or enjoying a drink by myself, that I've discovered new facets of who I am and what brings me joy.

From my own experience, I've found that embracing the uncomfortable can lead to beautiful opportunities. It's given me the chance to meet new people, deepen my faith, and become more resilient in facing life's challenges. And let's not forget the sheer pride and confidence that come from conquering something you once thought was intimidating.

Stepping into the Unknown

As I reflect on this journey of stepping into the unknown, there are still many things I'd love to try. Skydiving? Yes, it's on the list! And I've been really thinking about starting a podcast which is something I have wanted to do. The beauty of embracing the uncomfortable is that it opens doors to experiences you might never have considered before.

So, dear friends, I encourage you to venture outside your comfort zone. Take that step, even if it's a small one, towards the unfamiliar. Remember that discomfort can be a sign of growth and transformation. Trust that God has a purpose for you that's beyond your wildest imagination, and often, it's in the discomfort that His purpose becomes clearer.

As you continue to explore, be patient with yourself. Allow God to work through your moments of vulnerability and uncertainty. Just like a seed needs to be planted in the soil before it can grow into a flourishing plant, so too do you need to embrace discomfort to truly bloom into the incredible person you were meant to be.

All the best,

Payton Duncan
